| Country Wall Hanging
Materials List:
Note: ¼” seams throughout. Press all seams toward darker fabric. Directions: Cut 6 squares of muslin just large enough to hoop. Scan and embroider* 6 related designs of your choice in the center of each square. Trim each block to equal 7” square keeping each embroidery centered in block. Cut 12 each 3” x 3” squares of small plaid. Cut 17 each 3 ½” x 7 ½” rectangles of large plaid. With right sides together, stitch squares and rectangles together along 3” sides in the following order: square, rectangle, square, rectangle, square, to form sashing strip. Repeat 3 more times for a total of 4 sashing strips. With right sides together, stitch 3”x 7” strips to right and left sides of embroidered blocks in the following order: rectangle, block, rectangle, block, rectangle. Repeat 2 more times making a total of 3 block strips. Working from top to bottom, with right sides together, matching seams, stitch sashing strips to block strips beginning with sash strip and alternating with block strips. End with sash strip. Trim edges of resulting quilt top to make even and square. Cut 25” x 36” quilt back and layer with 25” x 36” batting and quilt top. Baste together and machine quilt along seam lines in ditch. Trim edges to make even and square. Measure wallhanging sides and cut 2 binding strips that length + 1” x 2 ½”. With right sides together, stitch 1 strip to each side of wallhanging. Turn under ¼” on each raw edge of side bindings and press. Fold binding toward back leaving 1” width along front sides. Hand stitch folded edge to back of quilt. Measure bottom edge of quilt and cut 1 binding strip that length + 1” x 2 ½”. Fold both ends under ½” and press. Attach to bottom of quilt as described in previous step. Measure top of quilt and cut 1 binding strip that measurement + 1” x
5 ½”. Attach to top of quilt as described in two previous
steps. Top binding will act as a rod pocket to hang quilt.
