Directions:

Cut 4 light and 5 dark squares of fabric just large enough to hoop for embroidery.   Embroider one design* in center of each square.

Trim 9 squares to equal 6-1/2” x 6-1/2” making sure the design is in the center of the block.

With right sides together, stitch together 3 rows of 3 squares each.  Alternate light and dark squares.  Refer to picture for placement.

With right sides together, matching seams, sew top row to center row and remaining row to bottom of center row as shown forming 9 patch block.

From printed fabric, cut 2 strips 3-1/2” x 19”, cut 2 strips 3-1/2” x 24”.  If using a stripe, be sure and cut matching stripes for pillow border.

With right sides together, stitch one 3-1/2” x 19” strip to each side 9 patch block.  Then stitch 3-1/2” x 24” strips to top and bottom of block.

Cut muslin square 25” x 25”.  Layer muslin, batting and block in that order.  Machine quilt in the ditch along 9 patch seam lines.  Trim block edge to make even and square.

From printed fabric, cut 2 each 16-1/2” x 24” pillow backs.  Turn under ¼” and ½”, press and hem one 16-1/2” side on each piece.

With right sides together, matching outside edge, stitch pillow front to pillow back with hemmed center pillow back edges overlapping to form envelope closing.

Turn right side out and stitch through all layers around 9 patch block along border seam.

Insert pillow form.
