WELCOME TO ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC SCHOOL

It is a privilege to serve as the principal of St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Johnsburg, Illinois. Established in 1843 as the first Catholic school in McHenry County, St. Johns is a school rich in history. At St. John's, we uphold and teach in the Catholic tradition focusing on Gospel values, building community and rendering service.

The success of our diocesan and state recognized school is due to several factors: the support of our Pastor, Father Bob Balog, the excellent working relationship with the parish administration, the faculty and school staff and especially the incredible support of our parent / grandparent volunteers.

St. John's School offers a child an excellent education and parents numerous opportunities to become involved.

On behalf of our Pastor and the entire St. John School family, it is a pleasure to welcome you and extend an invitation to visit our school to see what we have to offer for your child(ren) and family.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pamela Dvonch
Principal

PRE-SCHOOL

St. John's preschool program offers young children early learning experiences that stimulate their academic and spiritual growth. By creating a positive nurturing environment, opportunities are provided for social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative developmental skills, promoting pride, independence and the self confidence to face new challenges and situations. Children of all faiths are welcome.

KINDERGARTEN

St. Johns' full-day kindergarten program presents a challenging new curriculum that prepares students for entry into first grade. Children participate in all-school liturgies, assemblies and activities, including music and physical education classes.

Christian values and the life of Jesus are incorporated into both curricula.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM

An Extended Day program is available to all families with students enrolled at St. John the Baptist School in kindergarten through grade five. Although it is intended to serve the working parent who desires both a Catholic school education and supplementary care in a Christian Environment, the program will accommodate requests for occasional care from all pre-registered families, based on availability.

HOW TO ENROLL

To enroll a new student at SJS, a parent must contact the school and schedule a meeting with the principal or principal's designee.

• If a student is currently enrolled at another school, the parent / guardian must supply copies of the students report card / test scores from their current school.

• A child wishing to enter kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1st and must complete kindergarten screening through their local school district.

• In addition to the above procedure, the family must follow the requirements of the Education Commission's current Admission Policy.

HISTORY

St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish of Johnsburg proudly boasts of having the first Catholic School in McHenry
County. The school's history extends back to 1843. The main school building was erected during the 1953-54 school year under the guidance of Father Blitsch.

In 1994, consturction was completed on several additions to our school and parish facilities. Adjacent to these are the early education classrooms, science and computer labs, library and conference rooms.

CATHOLIC IN TRADITION

Our faculty, administration, and school community are strongly committed to emphasizing Christian values through practicing our Catholic faith.

All students participate in daily prayer and religious instruction.Christian values are interwoven throughout academic subjects and in extra-curricular activities.

Masses are planned weekly by the faculty with student participation. Students demonstrate speech, reading, writing, musical and artistic skills as part of the liturgy. St. John's offers in-depth preparation for the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist.

Students in grades 4 through 8 are encouraged to volunteer as altar servers. Serving Mass provides the student with an opportunity to become better acquainted with the parish community and to obtain a better understanding of our rich Catholic heritage.

Students are offered opportunities to practice Christian values beyond the school setting through participation in community events and service projects.
