Grand Rapids Amtrak Station, March 1998
| This is Grand Rapid's present Amtrak station. It was
built fast and cheap in early 1984 for the start-up of the Grand Rapids to
Chicago "Pere Marquette". This was to be the first passenger train service
since 1971, and there were concerns that the service would not last.
The building was improved considerably in 1997 once yet
another Amtrak funding crisis had passed, and service seemed likely to
continue. |
