FLUSHING, MI

Flushing, MI Station, August 2002
| The depot in Flushing was originally built by the
Cincinnati, Saginaw & Mackinaw Rail Road in 1888. By 1890, the railroad
was in operation between Durand, on the Grand Trunk's main line, and Saginaw-Bay
City. The owners offered the railroad to the Grand Trunk in return for a
guarantee on its debt. The Grand Trunk accepted the offer and got an important
feeder for its main line.
The Grand Trunk sold the depot to private owner in the mid
1960's and the building was turned into a restaurant. In 1980, a fire damaged
the building to the point where the roof fell in. |
 |
Four years later, the depot was finally donated to the
local historical society. They spent $300,000 rebuilding the depot. It is
now open as the Flushing Area Museum and Cultural Center. |
