John Trudell is a Lakota spoken-word poet that I consider to be the greatest single user of the English language. He speaks volumes about our relationship to the Earth; give him a listen!
A beautiful and extensive art installation/site by jecca; I came across it fortuitously one day, and will soon have a few of my photographs on display there! Many things to see and read there; a most wonderful study of sex and our relationship to nature, with a tree-planting(actually growing from seed!)project as part of it...
Jim Woodring is one of my favorite artists; he's actually a cartoonist, but I consider him to be a seer and explorer of the collective consciousness... prepare yourself; his work frightens and disturbs many...
The EZLN and Subcommandante Marcos- a website...
For the first time in human history, you can visit the website of a guerilla army engaged in a nearly decade-long war with the Mexican government over basic human rights in the poorest, yet most resource-wealthy, state in Mexico. A real reminder of what it means to fight for one's rights...
Adbusters- destroy all advertising!
If you think advertising and modern media are negatively impacting our culture, please visit this site and get to work destabilizing advertising and mass media; stop the McDonald's/Disney Leviathan before we are all consumed consumers!
Bat Conservation International
I hope you like bats like I do; if not, it's time to learn how cute and important they really are; of the 3000 or so different species of mammals on Earth, over 800 of those are bat species! To plagarize a famous quote, "the Creator was inordinately fond of bats..."
One of my favorite commentators on the 20th century condition; she will shock and offend hard-boiled feminists and hard-boiled puritans alike, all the while setting your thesaurus on fire- I love her!
Hunter Thompson- a multimedia interview!
An excellent text and multimedia interview with The Good Doctor from the summer of 1997- and he is quite understandable- the fact that it was 2AM and he and the reporter had consumed vast quantities of Wild Turkey may have a bearing... you'll need Real Audio to enjoy the sounds and images.
Hunter Thompson- an unofficial site...
A very nice site with current updates and many images and text files- very good!
Just a magnificent site with many art projects; an animated globe showing earthquake activity over two week periods as bubbles appearing on the Earth's surface(looks like boiling water!), random music generated by the site's server activity, a real time world map of all the computers hooked to the site, illuminated by flashing lines... really neat!
Small Comets- where water came from?
A fascinating site by two University of Iowa researchers, whose satellite imaging studies seem to indicate that the Earth is being hit by house-sized chunks of ice, oh, about every couple of seconds or so! Based on the age of the Earth, their theories show that most of the Earth's water could have come here in this fashion, as well as organic compounds... someone who read of this was quite spooked; they saw it as an intragalactic water delivery service- !
The best cave site out there; simply beautiful.
Yes, I know he's dead! This is a wonderful, complex site well worth taking the (download) time to visit... check out the Quicktime VR image of his bedroom!
Dr. Tom Volk's mycological site
Generally considered to be the best fungal website out there; an exhaustive catalog of images and information!
Macromedia Flash and Shockwave
Really nice, fast loading animations, multimedia, and neat webpage design are possible with Macromedia software; the plug-in software for your browser is small- and free! I'm going to be working with Macromedia Flash; I actually bought the software! Really cool stuff...
This is the regional National Weather Service site; very detailed forecasts on a county-by-county basis from here all the way west to Colorado! Access to radar images as well, including animations; make sense of the chaos machine yourself...
On a lighter note, wonderful images await you when you install Quicktime(it's free) on your computer; great movies and awesome navigable panoramas- install it now- I command you! Business critics have said that Bill Gates should buy Apple just for Quicktime; hmmmm...
Once you have Quicktime installed, and you can only download 1 file, this is the best 4.5MB you'd ever wait for; a computer model of a sphere turning itself inside out- based on a mathematical model. Very high resolution mind candy...
Grateful Dead- all day, all night!
If you have the(free) Real Audio Player installed, you can have the Dead playing anytime you are online! I've only been to two Dead shows, but I like their music very much- enjoy!
And on a similar note- Phish via Real Audio; a really skilled band- if you're not familiar with their shows, they will, on occasion, do entire album sides by other artists. I heard a recording of them doing Side 1 of Remain in Light by the Talking Heads- WOW!
More to come...
