In Hunter's Cave, Iowa- one of my first visits to a cave... I'm happy, really- and Jim Woodring drew the adjacent image of my 'conditioned soul' based on this photograph- hmmmmm... do I have some work to do on it, or- ?

Post-NSS Convention 1993- In Mexico; I had just pointed out that we drained the three-bean salad on someone's front steps... 'decisive moment' for sure- although Mr. Cartier-Bresson might not agree!(both photos by Chris Rechten)
I had an interesting preface all written up for this page, all about technology and how it is part of human nature to use tools- be they stone tools or supercomputers. The tools and the tinkerers are the same. The means are different but the ends are the same- that we may end up like other 'lost civilizations' - dispersed due to some kind of top-heaviness; that the weight of the culture and its technologies crushed the inhabitants.... but the HTML program that the text was in went awry and I was unable to retrieve it; technology reminding me that we are simply surfing on chaos...
Anyhow, I've gotten over some of my objections to the technology you are engaged with now. It does stir something in my photographic-musical-graphics subconscious mind; I would dare say the net environmental damage is the same- the technologies necessary for photography and the graphic arts have never been-and never will be-models for non-toxic processes; I can speak from long personal experience- there is some funky stuff out there!
So, please enjoy your visit here.
