TAX ALERT!! HERE WE GO AGAIN! Believe it or not, after four consecutive attempts, River Grove School District 85.5 is again IGNORING THE WILL OF THE VOTERS AND trying to push a referendum to raise the educational tax rate. On April 5, 2005, they are asking for a 95-cent increase for every $100 dollars of equalized assessed valuation (EAV). This is 10 cents or 12 % more than they have asked for on the 4 failed referendum requests. If this referendum passes, the educational tax rate in SD 85.5 will increase by about 42%! This will raise your current tax bill by several hundred dollars. This increase would be in addition to the triennial reassessment increase that will appear on your fall tax bill. We strongly urge you to PUNCH 428 and VOTE NO on this item. There is a stealth campaign underway to have this referendum approved. The advocates of this increase are hoping that voters will not find out about this issue and only vote in the upcoming village board races. There has been very little press and NO visible campaigning for this issue. This stands in stark contrast to the election last fall when pro referendum signs and literature flooded the area, and the SD 85.5 Superintendent admitted soliciting donations from vendors who had business relationships with the School District. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE SILENCE
