"And
then I come to this other point, that if you are placing or putting money
into a school system which itself creates this problem, or helps to create
it, or does nothing or very little to alleviate it, are we not just in fact
wasting the money of the Federal Government and the taxpayer and investing
money where it is really going to accomplish very little if any
good?" Robert F.

Important Bills affecting education and
taxation. Please let your legislators know how you feel about these
bills. We have some senators and
representatives names and numbers on our how to help page. The mother of all
tax increases. This is the
brainchild of Ralph Martire's teacher union funded CTBA. It would boost state income tax by
over 66%, raise corporate income taxes, and levy new taxes on services. Even the CTBA's deflated figures
place the estimated tax increase at $4.7 billion annually. Mr. Martire and his
teacher union bosses have written HB0750 because the public has started
resisting endless school tax increases. SB0002-Miguel del Valle - Emil Jones Another tax
increase for the school currently postponed. Teachers
will be able to deduct the first $30,000 of their salaries from their income
taxes, robbing taxpayers of $135 million per year in revenue. HB0850 Michael J. Madigan Increases the ceiling for
household income eligibility for the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze
Homestead Exemption from $40,000 for taxable years 1999 through 2003 to
$45,000 for taxable years 2004 and thereafter. HB3962 - Michael J. Madigan Initially this bill would have
reduced the State's share of accrued liability of TRS by an estimated $1.85
billion. But lo and behold the
teachers union stepped in to alter this excellent bill. This bill is an attempt to weaken the
"Tax Cap" law so schools can more easily raise taxes without your
approval. Authorizes school
districts to adopt mandate relief levies for special education mandates and
transportation mandates. HB3101 - Public Act 93-0346 Mark H. Beaubien,
et. al. Requires the
taxpayer to pay the property tax increase the year that that the education
referendum passes not a year later as it was prior to this act. Requires that 51%
of all future general funds go to education. This bill benefits the teachers
and teacher unions not the taxpayer or the school children. SB0317 - William Haine, Pamela J. Althoff and
Dan Rutherford Tenure does not take
ten years in the K-12 system currently it only takes four years. Now
this group wants to drop it to two years. This bill benefits
the teachers and teacher unions not the taxpayer or the school children. |
