First Settled in 1836 by Calvin Spenser. Between the years of 1880 to the depression, Marengo was a boom town that could boast, three hotels, three railroads (Despite the fact the Woodstock and Sycamore Traction, never reached Woodstock and barely made Sycamore!),an opera house and one of countries largest stove factories! What did not burn down, was lost to the depression, so Marengo has become the town it is today. A town where you can boast that it is a great place to grow up in, a great place to die in, but in between there is not much to boast about.
