Miracles
Some people want to experience miracles so much that they fall into the trap of worshiping miracles instead of worshiping God.
The Holy Spirit dwells within every Christian, but the Spirit gives different gifts to different people.
A miracle is any direct intervention by God in human experience ...
Miraculous healings do still happen in today's world, but not always as often as we would like.
Both God and the devil can perform physical healing.
There's no doubt that the miracle of speaking in tongues did occur in the early Christian church.
... an occurrence doesn't necessarily have to be scientifically unexplainable in order to be called a miracle.
... an event does not have to be scientifically unexplainable in order to be called a miracle.
... it is not necessary to refrain from taking medicine in order to show that we trust God for healing.
The physical world was affected by the fall described in Genesis.
... God created the physical substances that doctors use as medicines.
... a heavenly light shone on Paul and Jesus spoke audibly to him.
Going to the doctor does not indicate a lack of faith.
... God can and does heal both toothaches and cancer.
It is clear from the Scripture that the Jews who were present did learn something when they heard Gentiles speaking in tongues in Cornelius' home.
We don't see Christians handling snakes or drinking poison intentionally, or at least we certainly should not see that, but Christians do still have access to miraculous protection from God.
I would far rather see Christians refrain from speaking in tongues, as you recommend, than to see them abuse the gift.
... tongues are not the most important thing.
