Intergovernmental Cooperation
Because of irregular municipal boundaries it often becomes necessary for Algonquin Township Road District personnel to travel through a municipality to reach the roads they serve. State law permits, and encourages, Intergovernmental Agreements that can help eliminate duplication of services.
Algonquin Township Highway Department has Intergovernmental Agreements with all municipalities in the Township. We also have Intergovernmental Agreements with Park Districts, Fire Districts, McHenry County Conservation District and many of the School Districts.
Intergovernmental Agreements provide for a wide range of matters such as the sale of salt and road materials or exchange of services such as mowing, plowing, etc.
