REPETATIVE STRESS INJURIES

subject:Repetitive Stress Injuries...(3/1/01)

I agree that equipment placement. etc. could relieve symptoms that drivers experience, but would enjoy reading if any drivers have found acceptable techniques in their driving styles to also help.

Here are a couple of things I have incorporated over time to spare my back and neck (I have had evaluations and proficiences that I have passed while using the following):

1. I always use my parking brake, but only use my foot to set and release it. This saves the bending motion if I used my hand.
2. I hold my hands more in a 4:8 o'clock position on the steering wheel than 3:9 and it keeps my shoulders and neck much more relaxed.
I had experienced chronic back and neck pain before this, frequent chiropractic visits and a lot of aspirin.

These 2 changes have dramatically changed that (I have not seen the chiropractor in 9 or more years).

By the way, I had an opportunty to drive a bus with an air seat, and wanted to bring it home with me- a little piece of heaven!

subject:Carpal Tunnel Syndrome...(1/24/01)

I have driven for 5 years and developed carpal tunnel, dequier vein syndrome, ulnar nerve(elbows),neck and back pain.
Does anyone else have any of the same symptoms I have you been diagnosed?
My district doesn't take me serious even though it seems like it's becomming an epademic with other drivers.
It seems like a never ending battle.

Recently, I found out that there was faulty steering pump which makes it hard to drive. This was going on for over 2 years.
The mechanics and district did not take me serious. I asked several times to have my bus checked and they said there was nothing wrong with the bus. They were wrong.
Now I am suffering for it. I have had surgeries, physical therapy, continual dr. visits.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

thanks
