Norwegians Build Better Golf Club

Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door. Build a better putter and the guys in golf shoes will come knocking. At least that's what Norwegians Andy Larsgaard and Jon Karlsen are discovering. They have come up with a better design for a putter, a heavy shaft and a lighter head. They analyzed every putter on the market before coming up with this new design which has a stainless steel shaft and two wings that branch outward and upward on the thin putting surface.

It seems golfers on the European PGA tour are standing in line to try it. They have shown it to 30 players and have 30 orders. Four players are already using it on the tour but American golfers, professional and otherwise, will have to wait. They had planned to introduce the club, which sells for about $300, to pros in the United States this spring but now with all the orders from Europe they are concentrating on the European tour.

Larsgaard expects to bring the club here this summer to show the pros. When it can be mass produced for weekend golfers is anyone's guess. "It's a big job to get it on the market," Larsgaard said. "Hopefully we will do that in partnership with another producer, or another producer will buy the company and produce it."
