Book ReportSix Years To Sunrise
Catherine Hoff Mount & Karen Lafnear
Catherine Mount writes, "We were born to Norwegian parents and this book is about us growing up in Norway during WWII. We went to Norway in 1939 with our mom, with my dad to follow shortly there after. The reason for the relocation was the depression of that time. Our parents had lost everything and since there were no jobs available my dad thought we should go back to Norway and start over. All their family was in Norway so there would be lots of support from them. Before my dad could come however WWII began. We could not get back to the US and my dad could not get to Norway.
"Our book is about us growing up during those very hard times and the letters we found that our parents had written during that period. We translated hundreds of letters into English. My dad wrote every day even though he could not mail his letters for there was no mail was allowed to enter or leave Norway at the time of the German occupation Our parents were born, and married in Norway. Came to th US and lived here for 10 years.
"Our book tells of being separated from my dad for over 6 years and all the sadness our parents felt at being separated for so many years. Karen has been married to James Lafnear for 44 years. They have 2 Children and 3 grandchildren. My name is Catherine Hoff Mount and last year my husband Clarence and I celebrated our 50th Wed. Anniv. by going to Norway. We have 2 daughters 3 grandchildren and 1 great grand daughter. We still have a lot of family and friends in Norway who we keep in touch with on a regular basis."
