POWERS, MI

Powers, MI Depot, August 1999

In 1871-72, the Chicago and North Western extended track from Fort Howard (Green Bay) to Escanaba. Powers is on this line. Later, lines were added running west. All these C&NW lines became part of Union Pacific on June 23, 1995.

On January 27, 1997, the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Company, part of Wisconsin Central since 1987, purchased 198 route miles of line and associated facilities including the ore dock at Escanaba, Mich. from the Union Pacific Railroad for approximately $85 million in cash.

Tracks through powers are still in use. The depot was sold to an individual and moved. It sits saved, but not restored behind the Mobile gas station in Powers.

Do you have an old picture of the depot?
